Proposed changes to the Health Insurance Rebate Scheme as announced in the Federal Budget 2011

The ADHA is adding our concerns to those already expressed by the Private Health Care Sector regarding the above which could lead to the rebate being means tests or being abolished completely.  An independent research document released by Deloittes recently outlines the significant impact that the proposed changes to the Health Insurance Rebate would have on both the Private and Public health sectors.  Deloittes outlines if the changes went ahead that there would be an additional 845,000 Public Hospital admissions between 2012 and 2016.  The proposed Legislation is price sensitive to all three income category groups identified and the Deloittes research which involved 2,000 Australians holding Private Health Insurance indicated that many would pull out or significantly reduce their level of cover and force up premiums for the remaining insured.

ADHA is lobbying on behalf of members with all Politicians and has compiled a brief Position Statement on this issue.  Click here to download a copy.  A copy of the Deloittes report can be found on the Australian Health Insurance Association website - http://www.ahia.org.au/).
